It’s been a long time since our dancers have been able to wow a live audience, and they really miss it.

There’s something about dancing for an audience that can’t be described — and any dancers reading this will know what we mean.

But thanks to the digital age and some creativity, we have some exciting new opportunities to share: we’ve participated in our first dance film competition!

We’re thrilled to announce that our very own MCDA dancers were featured in the Life in Motion Colorado Virtual Dance Film Festival this year, hosted by Life Art Dance.

This was a brand new experience for us, and we’re looking forward to more opportunities to showcase our young talent online and out on the stage.

Read on to learn more about this exciting dance event and where MCDA is headed next!

What is The Colorado Dance Film Festival?

Every year, Life Arts Dance looks for the most compelling dancers in the state to showcase in a live film compellation.

These can be dancers of any genre and skill level, and sometimes there is a theme or “prompt” for the dancers to perform their dance videos.

This year’s dance submissions included works inspired by the past year of isolation during the pandemic. Dances were performed and filmed across the state of Colorado and submitted to a panel of judges for review.

Due to COVID, the festival was held virtually this year, with audience members and participants watching the ticketed event at home.

The dance videos were streamed live on March 6th and 7th 2021.

Who Was Featured in The Dance Film Festival?

There were many submissions this year, and we were honored to be featured among such talented dancers.

Our MCDA dancers were showcased alongside many notable dancers and professional dancing organizations in the Colorado community, including:

These performers made dances especially for this festival, and were able to showcase their innovative new work to an even larger audience online and with amazing video and sound elements.

Our students at MCDA performed a beautiful new piece titled “Circuition” and experimented movements with the earth and a piece of cloth while dancing in front of the camera.

Who Runs the Colorado Dance Film Festival?

Life Art Dance Ensemble is a non-profit that was created in 2009 to provide more opportunities for low income senior citizens to experience live dance performance in the community.

When they first began, they brought professional dancers to senior living facilities for dance performances set to live music.

In 2015, the wholesome organization collaborated with a local videographer and composer to create their very first dance film festival featuring local dancers in the area.

Since then, “Life in Motion” has been featuring some of the state’s most inspirational and up-and-coming dancers through film for all audiences.
